CompassPoint Mentorship is a program founded by Carl Shan (UC Berkeley ‘14) and Kavya Shankar (Harvard ‘14) that matches rising juniors and seniors with alumni from his or her same high school. This unique mentor/mentee relationship lends itself to highly personalized academic advising, helping students realize their potentials and transition from the last two years of high school to the first stages of college.
In addition to general advice, mentees can expect help with college applications/essays - often the most stressful part of high school - and bi-weekly modules containing academic and professional development tips. They are also contacted on a weekly to monthly basis by a mentor recruited by the Highland branch.
The Highland branch is led by Esther Chung (UC Berkeley ‘14) and Samantha Carreon (Stanford ‘14).

Esther Chung graduated from Highland with the IB Diploma in 2010. She was one of the top five students in her class, and participated in Varsity Tennis and Senate. She is currently studying in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley.

Samantha Carreon also graduated from Highland with the IB Diploma in 2010. She was awarded meritorious valedictorian, and participated in JV Basketball, JV Tennis, Senate, and Mathletes. She is currently pursuing a degree in biomechanical engineering at Stanford University.
